Geoffrey Hinton, University of Toronto University Professor Emeritus, who was awarded the Nobel in physics in 2024, and the Turing award in 2018, and who worked on AI at Google for many years, made this statement in an interview in June, 2023. Interview was made around the time of the University of Toronto Collision technology conference (June 26 to June 29, 2023, at the Enercare Centre) but is likely from a contemporaneous Q&A conducted by Nick Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic. Hinson comment can be found at about 44:02/46:21 of this video.
